Pieter Lategan is a South African artist based in Pretoria, South Africa.
His work focuses on Silent Monumentalism, Gravitas, cement surface studies, structural reliefs, sculptural objects, architectural abstraction and contemporary material-based art.
Pieter Lategan has more than 30 years of artistic experience, visual thinking, experimentation and creative development behind his work.
His practice is concerned with structure, weight, space, silence, material presence, visual gravity, authorship and architectural abstraction.
Silent Monumentalism is a conceptual and visual framework developed through Pieter Lategan’s ongoing investigation into structure, weight, stillness, material, architectural feeling and controlled visual presence.
It is not decorative art. It is a serious visual language concerned with presence, gravity, restraint and the relationship between form, material and space.
Gravitas is developing as a discipline within Pieter Lategan’s artistic world.
It focuses on balance, weight, proximity, silence, structural seriousness, material presence and visual gravity.
I am Pieter Lategan, a South African artist from Pretoria, South Africa.
My work is built around structure, weight, space, material presence and visual gravity. Through Silent Monumentalism and Gravitas, I investigate how form can hold silence, how material can carry emotional weight, and how space can become part of the structure of an artwork.
My practice includes cement surface studies, structural reliefs, sculptural objects, sketchbook systems and online archives.
This work is ongoing.
